OPINION: President Adama Barrow should sack Demba Sabally

Demba Sabally does not deserve to hold public office at all. If he truly said that President Barrow elevated the Fulas, then this man will use public office as a tool of division and exploitation. He needs to be removed.

Those comments promote tribalism, division, disunity, and misuse of public office for personal gain.

Ministers are prevented from using their office for personal gain under Section 73(4)(c).

Demba Sabally’s comments are also in contravention of Section 220(c) of the Constitution which imposes an obligation on all citizens to foster nationality unity and hence prohibits tribalism.

Furthermore, Demba Sabally’s comments suggest that he was appointed because he's a Fula, which is contrary to Section 222(4) on the Code of Conduct for public officers in the Constitution.

Above all, his comments undermine the norms and standards and the integrity of public office. He has put public office in general and his own office in particular into disrepute in the eyes of the citizenry.

For that matter, the National Assembly has the full powers and tools under Section 75 to institute and pass a motion of censure to remove Demba Sabally from office, where the President fails to remove him in the first place.
