Baba Ja, who has previously captured the hearts of Facebook users with his hilarious videos, has become an overnight internet sensation after his video on the current xenophobia attacks in South Africa went viral attracting a whopping two million views.

“I cannot remember any Gambian video that attracted that amount of views and shares on social media,” commented one of Baba Ja’s viewers.  

Who is Baba Ja?

He currently lives in Washington, USA. Baba Ja is from Brikama in Kombo Central and has always had a comedic flare according to sources from his hometown.

Baba Ja is set apart from other Gambian comedians by his acute interest in social issues, current affairs and people in general.

The Brikamian, who works with a US private security firm, is fondly known as Sering Thiapathioly.

Following his recent ‘breaking of the internet’, Baba has accumulated lots of new fans including controversial columnist, Latirr Carr. He said: “I got exposed to his videos the last few weeks and can't wait to see more of them. Who said Gambians can't do comedy?”
