Brikama-based poet, Amadou Bah, is in a joyous mood after his Swiss-born wife embraced Islam and accepted him for the African that he is. The couple got married on April 28, 2016, at the Bijilo mosque after dating for two years.
“She loves the culture, she respects the heritage and she will stand for the ancestors,” said Amadou in a conversation with What’s On-Gambia shortly after tying the knot.
His wife, who converted to Islam on the same day, was given the name “Isatou”, which is a common name among the Fulas.
“I never pressured her to convert to Islam but we always had discussions about the religion. She is a seeker who believes in herself and seeks the truth out of self-knowledge.”
Amadou said he has already started teaching Isatou how to perform the daily prayers.
The couple are currently enjoying their honeymoon and she is expected to return back to her native Switzerland on the May 8.
Congratulations to them! May God bless the union!
