Buyers of ram in Banjul, Kanifing Municipality and West Coast Region are complaining about the high price of the sacrificial animal as the tobaski celebration gets closer.

Tobaskii (Eid ul Adha) is a festival celebrated among Muslims all over the world. On this day, they slaughter a ram to honour the sacrifice of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham).

One Tumani Ceesay told What's On-Gambia that the prices of rams in his home town of Brikama range from D8,000 to D30,000.

“The prices are very high. Some of us might not slaughter on tobaski day,” he said.

President Adama Barrow was on Sunday at Abuka animal market to buy his ram. He told journalists: "I don't think the prices are high, it depends on what type of ram you want."

The Gambian leader said people must understand that Allah has not put a burden on any Muslim who cannot afford a ram.
