How much do you know about the mysterious woman Jammeh named a highway after?

Well, here are some juicy details that may blow your mind.

The 191km road—longest in The Gambia, formerly Soma-Basse Highway - was named after a former Miss July 22 who Jammeh desperately wanted to marry as second wife.

He went the extra mile of proving his love by naming the highway after her. The woman is called Toufa Jallow thus the road— Queen Y2J means Queen Yahya Toufa Jallow.

A source revealed: “When Jammeh wanted to marry her she refused. He tried everything. He named the highway after her to convince her that he genuinely loved her and would take good care of her.

“I know this because when she heard that Jammeh named a highway after her she was crying and said she doesn't give a damn."

The May 12th, 2015 edition of Daily observer, however, puts it differently, stating that the highway was dedicated to the women of The Gambia by Jammeh in recognition of their support and immense contribution to the country’s socio economic development.

The Queen Y2J Highway was inaugurated by Jammeh in Brikama Ba. What’s On-Gambia couldn’t ascertain the presence of  Toufa at the ceremony.

The pair later fell out and  the former beauty queen absconded to Canada where she sought political asylum. She's now married and living with her husband.
