This is a tough time for Binta Tamba.
Her eldest child and only son, Bakary Kujabi, popularly known as Seyfo, was one of the Faraba environmental activists who were shot dead when police opened fire on them on Monday.
A family friend, Edrisa Colley told What’s On-Gambia:“Seyfo was the breadwinner of the family after the passing of his father in 2009. His mother’s life will never be normal again.”
He continued: “Monday was the worst and most difficult day of her life after discovering that her son was killed.”
Seyfo was shot during a protest against a sand mining company in his home village of Faraba.
President Adama Barrow, who visited the wounded at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, condemned the killing and promised “full application of the law to ensure justice and accountability”.
Edrisa disclosed Binta is still struggling to cope with her son’s sudden and violent death.
He added: “Seyfo was a polite, honest and hardworking young man. He was a sales agent for a local beverage delivery company in Kololi.”
His killing still remains under investigation.
