The billboards for Mavado’s debut concert in The Gambia are up, but not one of the advertised opening acts is a major Gambian musician.

This left many wondering whether there would be any of the country’s big stars opening for the Jamaican reggae superstar next month at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

So far, the opening acts from The Gambia are mainly musicians who are virtually unknown.

“My goal is to promote rising upcoming artists,” said organiser Aisha Touray, who once dated singer Silky Criss.
