Travellers complain about rude, unfriendly Senegalese border officers

A furious Gambian traveller has accused Senegalese border officers of being rude, aggressive and disrespectful to Gambians entering their country.

In a chat with What’s On-Gambia, Pa Modou Nyang, who was recently in Senegal on a short visit, said: “I always heard stories about how Senegalese authorities treat Gambians once they cross the border. I couldn't believe it till I became a victim myself last week Thursday.”

He continued: “I have no reason to fabricate stories against the Senegalese since loads of my relatives are from there and I have always looked at the two countries as one. But what happened to me and some Gambians, who were also on their way to Dakar, was completely disrespectful.

“They forced us to remove our hats, took our fingerprints, our photos, and interrogated us before letting us go. I found that discriminatory because other travellers were allowed to go after showing only their ID cards.

“President Barrow's government has failed to make these people aware that we are sovereign people who deserve equal treatment as their own. Such treatments were not experienced during Jammeh's time, as he would give it back to them one way or the other. The bus driver did confirm this when he heard me say that.”
