Woman of the Year: Vice President likely to attend ceremony honouring Fatou Gaye

The nurse who quietly dedicates herself to helping others and improving her community is to be honoured on Saturday.

Fatou Gaye is What’s On-Gambia’s Woman of the Year. She is recognized for her work which includes helping women to safely deliver their babies and establishing a residential hall for more than 50 young girls, some of them orphans.

The award presentation is likely to be attended by the Vice President, Her Excellency Aja Dr.Isatou Njie-Saidy.

According to the co-founder of What’s On-Gambia, Alieu Khan, the aim of the ceremony is to celebrate an ordinary woman who is doing extra-ordinary things in her community.

He said: “Fatou Gaye is an amazing woman and that is one of the main reasons we want to recognize her. She doesn’t realize the difference she makes to so many women and young girls.”

The award presentation ceremony, which is open to members of the public, will be held in Kunkujang Keita-yaa, near Sinchu Alagie in the West Coast Region – starting 5pm.
