The 2018 Super Nawettan will witness a historic Kiangka-Jarrangka participation, as Lower River Region (LRR) has qualified for the next edition of the showpiece event for the first time in history.

The LRR boys from Jarra and Kiang secured their place in the competition, which will be held in October at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

In an interview with What’s On-Gambia, Gambia Football Federation’s Lang Tombong Tamba said the participation of LRR in the Super Nawettan will help to promote and develop football in the region, which has a lot of talented young players.

He added: “The team is under the management of the Lower River Region Football Association.”

Former sports editor, Baboucarr Camara, who is a native of Kiang, was among the first to congratulate the region on their qualification.

He wrote on Facebook: “Congratulations to Kiang & Jarra FC for being admitted into the Super Nawettan ahead of the 2018 season. Football decentralisation is winning.”

The 2017 Super Nawettan edition also witnessed the participation of a rural team. BEM, a team from the North Bank Region, surprised many when they made it to the final.
