Brikama, Basse and Bansang have the highest number of people living with AIDS

Brikama, Basse, and Bansang have the highest number of individuals living with HIV/AIDS, according to the Program Manager of the National AIDS Control Programme.

Speaking during this year’s World AIDS Day commemoration, Bah disclosed that the 2023 National Sentinel Surveillance report highlighted higher prevalence rates in these regions.

Bah also revealed that more than 26,000 people in the country are living with HIV/AIDS. Among them, 60% (15,898) have been diagnosed, 65% (10,313) are receiving treatment, and 61% (6,293) of those on treatment have achieved viral suppression.'

World AIDS Day 2024 was observed under the global theme: “Take the Right Path to End AIDS.” The event featured nationwide activities aimed at raising awareness, encouraging testing, and reducing the stigma surrounding the disease.
