First Lady accused of turning her back on friends

Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow has been accused of turning her back on her friends after her husband’s election victory against former President Yahya Jammeh.

In an astonishing interview, one of them told What’s On-Gambia that they are not sure if they would ever receive an invitation to visit the First Lady in the State House, where she currently lives with her family.

“I have not seen her since she became the First Lady and we used to be very close,” said the friend who begged for anonymity.

She described her friendship with Fatoumatta as fractured.

"We are disappointed with her because we were always there for her bu dara nekut dara."

The friend revealed the 44-year-old got married to President Barrow when she was in her early 20s.

“I am not sure how old she was when they got married, but it must be in her early 20s because their first child, Baba, is now 20 years old."

The friend further disclosed that the First Lady and the president have two children together –both boys.

Baba, whose real name is Mahmoud, is now studying in the USA, while Tayubu, who might be 10 years old, lives in the State House. He’s now attending a private school.

Despite her accusation, the friend told What’s On-Gambia that she is not bitter towards Fatoumatta.
