First lady donates D2.4m to pay for sick children’s overseas treatment

The First Lady of The Gambia is putting her soul into her business of giving a hand of help to the country’s children.

News on the Daily Observer confirmed that Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh, through her Operation Save the Children Foundation (OSCF), has splashed D2.4 million for seven children to undergo a three-month overseas medical treatment.

The first batch of four, who have congenital heart diseases, have already left for Israel for treatment at the Save a Child’s Heart Hospital (SACH).  The remaining three are expected to leave within a month.

The daily newspaper revealed that the package includes cost of treatment, travel for patients and escorts, lodging, feeding and cost of travel for escorting nurses.

Speaking at the farewell ceremony held at the Banjul International Airport on Saturday evening, Fatou Mass Jobe, the Executive Director of the Foundation said: “Her Excellency the First Lady and Chairperson of the Operation Save the Children Foundation launched OSCF with the strategic objective of complementing the efforts of His Excellency’s Government in creating a conducive environment that addresses the needs and aspirations of the children of The Gambia.”

Many described the First Lady’s donation as a classy gesture from a woman who is becoming famous for helping needy children.
