Gambia’s first national ngente: Sainabou Mbye to spend millions on naming ceremony

Sainabou Mbye, one of the country's most popular female entrepreneurs, is sparing no expense in hosting a lavish naming ceremony for her second child with her Lebanese-Gambian husband.

According to Sainabou, the event will be a "national ngente" and it will be streamed live on multiple social media platforms.

In a TikTok video, she revealed her plans to spend millions of dalasi on the two-day event, which is anticipated to be the most extravagant naming ceremony ever seen in The Gambia.

"Just to clarify, there will be two ashobee. The brown ashobee is for the Henna Time on January 25 at Paradise Estate. Initially, it was planned to be at my home in Jabang, but since it's too cramped, I decided to move the event to my mother, Ida Cham's house. The blue ashobee is for January 26, the day of the naming ceremony, also at Ida's home in Paradise Estate. In the evening, we'll have the reception at Coco Ocean," she explained.

The naming ceremony is expected to attract some of the country's top influencers and driankes.
