Compliments and praises poured in from different quarters for sprinter Gina Bass following her appearance at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. 

The 26-year-old made history by becoming the first Gambian woman to enter Olympic 100m and 200m semi-finals. 

Although Gina failed to qualify for the finals, social media was abuzz with congratulatory messages for her. 

Sports Minister Bakary Badjie wrote on Facebook: "Gina will remain a heroine and a national asset worthy of support and recognition not just for qualifying to the Olympics, but breaking records and making The Gambia and Africa's presence count at the global event." 

He added: "Congratulations to you and the entire Team Gambia for being superheroes and registering great achievement. We're very proud of YOU!!" 

Former State House senior communications officer, Nfally Fadera also said: "Congratulations to our Olympic hero for an incredible performance in Tokyo. Although short of what we wish for you, we are still very much proud of you! Thank you for making us all proud." 

Gina will receive a hero's welcome at the Banjul International Airport on August 12. Her fans want the government to give her a diplomatic passport for making the nation proud.
