Diha has threatened to sue The Voice Newspaper’s entertainment writer for dirtying her image and making it difficult for her to work with certain promoters and producers in the future. She made this revelation during an interview with Wah Sa Halat on West Coast Radio.Â
In an article published on the front page of The Voice, the entertainment writer disclosed that the singer said in an earlier interview with Wah Sa Halat “all male producers and Promoters usually ask for sexual favors before helping you.â€Â
“She never said anything like that when I invited her here the last time,†said Sista Njie, the outspoken presenter of the popular radio talk show.Â
Diha dismissed the article, claiming The Voice had “made up a bunch of garbage.â€Â
However, the singer confirmed she mentioned that some promoters and producers want something in return after helping a female artist. “But I never said all of them are like that. When I go to producers I go with my own money and they do the work for me. This reporter wants to ruin my career, because some promoters might not feel comfortable working with me.â€Â
A member of the Gambia Female Artists’ Association, who was also in the studio, said; “We should think of how to market our artists and country. What the writer did was wrong. Diha is a role model and her music is widely appreciated. She should call a press conference and set the record straight.â€Â
When asked again by Sista Njie, if she was really serious about suing the journalist, Diha responded; “I have my family and a team that I work with, so I have to contact them and seek advice before I take any move.â€Â
A caller appealed to the singer to ignore the newspaper article and focus on her career. He also argued that it is high time for Gambian artists to learn how to handle media reports. Â According to him, may be the journalist wrote the article to let the public know some of the problems female artists encounter.Â
When What’s On-Gambia contacted the entertainment writer, he only said; “Diha threatened to take action against me.â€
