Before a huge and sombre crowd at her compound in Pipeline, Aunty Sai was remembered on Sunday as a woman who dedicated her life to serving the needs of others.
She died at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.
Friends, family, neighbours and religious leaders who were at Aunty Sai’s funeral said she did so much for others, not just for her family – for the community.
Prominent student union leader, Ebrima Sonko, who is among the tenants at her Pipeline compound, took to Facebook to pay tribute to her as a “remarkable mother” who treated him and his roommate like her own children.
He wrote: “She looked after us like her own children and made sure that we had food every day to begin and end our fast with. In fact, I’m reliably informed that we are not the first group of students that she lodged and looked after.
“The little time I have spent with her is something I would remember till the end of time. Aunty Sai will be severely missed. May Allah reward her for the kindness. Rest in Peace!”
Ebrima disclosed that Aunty Sai died of high blood pressure.
