A famous lifeguard, Dodou Bah, has revealed that majority of Gambians don’t know how to swim.
“To be honest to you, seventy five percent of Gambians can’t swim. I can even say ninety percent. The people that can swim, I can say, are the ones living in fishing areas like Tanji, Bakau and Kartong,” he said.
Dodou was last weekend’s guest on Fess, an online talk show produced by Media Matic.
He was talking about their organization, Red Dolphin Lifeguardthat was established in 2005 by two British philanthropists.
According to Dodou, they have their members at almost all the famous spots in the Tourism Development Area, working as volunteer lifeguards dedicated to saving lives in, on and near water.
“People dying in the sea is not what we want. We want it to be safe,” he added.
Dodou said they are currently looking for funds to train young Gambians on basic swimming skills.
